The ‘Zig Zag Road’ label comes from the road where Scenic Valley cut its teeth in the honey industry. Producing a pure, natural, high-quality honey for honey lovers that want to know everything about the product they are consuming.
Being a beekeeper, you become more aware of the flowers that are out any time of the year. Here at Scenic Valley, we are very lucky with the amount of bee fodder in any season. From white clover, to butter cup, Mānuka, and Kānuka. With good autumn flowers for bees to gather their winter stores and plenty of tree lucerne available, we have minimal need to feed our hives.
Packaging is done on farm with our honey room being verified by the local council to ensure it meets the current food safety standards. Only capped honey frames are taken from the hives and spun in our extractor. After being strained out of the extractor, the honey is then jarred into our distinct glass hexagon jars with gold lids.
After purchasing our honey you may find it hardens, this is due to the natural properties of the honey. To soften, place the jar in a window with full sun or slowly heat in a pot of water, ensuring your water temperature does not exceed 40 degrees.
We sell our Zig Zag honey directly to honey lovers in one-off batches or on subscription, with shipping available anywhere in NZ.
Mānuka honey is known for its rich flavour and strong antibacterial properties. Here at Scenic Valley, our abundance of Mānuka and Kānuka trees make Mānuka honey a plentiful resource.
We target the Mānuka flower each year to produce a quality grade Mānuka honey. We tail off the season with a Bush honey and also collect honey from an apiary within the established homestead gardens, labelled as a Multi-Floral honey.
Our Mānuka honey is tested and labelled according to MPI regulations, with our labels stating our Mānuka’s MGO content.
MGO stands for methylglyoxal, which is the ingredient that makes Mānuka honey so special. The higher the MGO level, the more potent its flavour and antibacterial properties.
